“If she has proof of forgery, there is no merger,” Caleb said.
The yacht’s captain suddenly stuck his head out of the pilot house.
“Mr. Whitmore,” the captain called out. “The harbor patrol just radioed. They’re ordering us to turn back to the Meridian dock immediately.”
Grant turned sharply toward the pilot house. “Ignore them. We’re in open water.”
“They have Newport Beach PD waiting at the slip,” the captain said, his face grim. “They said it’s regarding a felony fraud warrant.”
Through the rain, I could see the blue and red lights flashing along the shoreline of Harbor Point, reflecting off the dark water.
Lila dropped the master deed onto the cabin table as if it had turned red hot.
Grant looked from the shore to me, his chest rising and falling quickly.
The phone in my hand beeped with a new incoming text from Diane.
