The Cost of Erasing the Mother of His Only Heir
He looked at his mother, but Margaret did not look back at him.
She was staring at the documents Grace had laid on the table.
“What subpoena?” Celeste asked, her voice shrill.
She stepped around Adrian, her heels clicking loudly on the hard floor.
“This is a private board meeting.”
“Not anymore, Ms. Vale,” I said.
“Your name is on the offshore transfer documents as a co-conspirator.”
“Grace has already delivered the banking records to the federal prosecutor.”
Celeste’s eyes widened.
She turned to Adrian, her hand flying to her mouth.
“Adrian, you said this was taken care of,” she whispered.
“You said the ex-wife had no leverage.”
“Shut up, Celeste,” Adrian muttered under his breath.
The board member in the gray suit stood up.
“Margaret, is this true?” he asked.
“Did you sign those affidavits knowing the child existed?”
Margaret remained silent.
Her jaw was clamped shut, her eyes fixed on Lily.
“We have the emails,” Grace said.
“We have the messages between Adrian and his mother discussing the birth.”
“We also have the security footage from the hospital where Adrian tried to have the birth certificate altered.”
