The Cost of Erasing the Mother of His Only Heir
“Margaret wants to speak with Vivian,” Donald said. “She is at the townhouse. She wants to resolve this quietly.”
“There is no quiet resolution anymore,” Grace said. “Adrian stole the trust ledger. He is dangerous.”
“He didn’t just take the ledger, Grace,” Donald said, his voice dropping to a whisper. “He went to the private vault in the basement of the Whitmore building. He cleaned out the physical bearer bonds.”
I gasped, looking at Grace.
“How much?” Grace asked.
“Twelve million dollars,” Donald said. “He is trying to convert them. Margaret is furious. She is realizing he is going to drag the family name through the mud.”
“Where is Adrian now?” Grace demanded.
“We don’t know,” Donald said. “His car was spotted heading toward the heliport on East 34th Street. He has a private charter booked under a false name.”
Grace stood up, gesturing for me to follow her.
“Call the Port Authority, Donald,” Grace said. “If Margaret wants to save her family name, she needs to stop her son before the police do.”
“Margaret won’t call the police on her own son,” Donald said.
