The Cost of Erasing the Mother of His Only Heir
I sat in a wooden chair in the corner of the reception area, keeping Lily’s carrier on my lap.
Through the half-open door of the inner office, I could hear Grace’s sharp, clear voice explaining the situation to Judge Alvarez.
She laid out the evidence of the forged signature.
She explained how Adrian had used the forged document to strip me of my marital rights and hide his assets.
“He has already taken the physical ledger of the trust,” I heard Grace say. “He is a flight risk, Your Honor, and he has a three-month-old child.”
The silence from the inner office felt heavy and suffocating.
I watched the second hand on the wall clock tick slowly.
Ten minutes passed. Then fifteen.
Finally, Grace walked out of the office, holding a signed piece of paper.
She had a small, grim smile on her face.
“It is signed,” she whispered, handing the paper to Marcus. “Get this scanned and emailed to the legal departments at Chase, Citibank, and Whitmore Enterprises immediately. Do not lose a single second.”
Marcus nodded quickly, taking the paper and running down the hall toward the public copy machines.
