“She won’t do it to help you, Vivian,” Grace said. “She will do it to save herself.”
Grace pulled a fresh sheet of paper toward her and began writing rapidly.
“We are going to send a draft of our response directly to Margaret’s personal legal counsel,” Grace said. “Not to Adrian’s lawyers.”
“What will the response say?” I asked.
“It will state that we have evidence of Adrian tampering with medical records, and that we are prepared to file a public fraud lawsuit against him and the clinic,” Grace said.
She looked up at me, her eyes sharp.
“We will make it clear that the moment Adrian files his custody petition, we will release our evidence to the press, along with the details of the Whitmore trust.”
“Will she believe us?” I asked.
“She will have her own investigators look into it within the hour,” Grace said. “And she will realize her son has made a massive, sloppy mistake.”
The hum of the baby monitor on the desk interrupted us, a soft cooing sound indicating Lily was stirring.
