I leaned closer to the monitor.

The funds had been approved by Grant during his tenure on our foundation’s board.

The destination accounts were registered to a shell company called ‘MHG Development Initiatives’.

“That’s a Mercer subsidiary,” I said.

“Exactly,” Lena said. “But the money never went to construction. It was transferred within twenty-four hours to an account in the Bahamas.”

The total was four point six million dollars.

“He siphoned charity money,” I said. “Funds meant for low-income housing.”

“He used your family’s philanthropic name to fund his personal cash reserves,” Lena said.

She looked up at me, her expression grim.

“When we introduce this, his claims of your vindictiveness will look absurd. He will go from a disgraced executive to a federal target.”

I looked at the names on the documents.

Grant’s signature was on every single transfer authorization.

“He thought he was insulated because he used the foundation’s standard forms,” I noted.

“He didn’t realize we keep hard copies of the original wire requests,” Lena said.

The telephone on her desk buzzed.

Her assistant’s voice came through the speaker.
