“Detective,” I said, my voice shaking slightly. “How did you get in?”

“The front door was wide open,” Pierce said, lowering his flashlight slightly so we could see. “The gate security was unconscious in the guard shack.”

“What?” Marcus said, his eyes narrowing.

“We found them bound and drugged,” Pierce said, stepping further into the room. “We came because the clinic’s security system sent an automatic alarm to our precinct.”

“The data deletion,” I said.

“Yes,” Pierce said. “The clinic’s servers were compromised. We tracked the IP address of the hacker directly to this coordinate.”

“It’s Vanessa,” Benjamin said, his voice thick with rage. “She’s trying to destroy the evidence of what she did to my daughters.”

“We need to secure this laptop,” Pierce said, gesturing to the officer behind him.

The officer stepped forward with an evidence bag.

“Wait,” Marcus said, blocking the officer’s path. “I’m in the middle of tracing the financial transactions.”

“Marcus,” Benjamin said. “Let them have it. If the police have the files, they can arrest her.”

“It’s not just Vanessa, Mr. Caldwell,” Marcus said, his eyes still fixed on his tablet screen.
