“The money isn’t there, Dad,” I said, my voice steady despite the cold.

He stared at me, then his gaze traveled to Declan and Roman as they stepped into the light.

His hand twitched toward his pocket, his knuckles turning white.

“Do not do that, Richard,” Roman said, pointing his gun at my father’s chest.

Richard froze, his chest heaving as he looked at the three of us.

“You lied to me,” Richard whispered, his voice cracking with anger. “The ledger was a fake.”

“You sold me to settle your debts,” I said. “Did you think I would let you run?”

Richard’s eyes darted toward the dark corners of the warehouse.

He let out a dry, rattling laugh that made my skin crawl.

“You think you won, Maeve?” he said, his smile turning ugly.

Before anyone could move, a loud click echoed from the catwalks above us.

The bright floodlights of the warehouse suddenly snapped on, blinding us.

“I knew you would follow her, Roman,” a voice boomed from the upper deck.

I squinted through the glare, shielding my eyes with my hand.
