“We need to find him,” Declan said, drawing his gun and checking the chamber.

“He will be at the western warehouse,” Roman said. “The informant said the final shipment leaves tonight.”

“I am coming with you,” I said.

Victor stepped in front of me, his hand raised.

“Maeve, this is a battlefield,” Victor said.

“You are a flower seller, not a soldier.”

“If you stay here, I can protect you.”

“I can get you out of Calder City before the first shot is fired.”

I looked at him, then at the rain pouring outside.

If I ran, I would always be running.

The debt would follow me, and my father would always find a way to sell me again.

“No,” I said.

“I am not running.”

“If I leave now, I am just a target.”

“If I stay, I can help you find him.”

“I know where he hides his trucks when the docks are hot.”

Roman watched me for a long moment.

“She comes,” Roman said.

“But she stays in the car.”

“Agreed,” I said, though I had no intention of staying behind.
