“If you stay here, Vance’s men will find you before the police can secure the floor,” Miller said.

“Then do your job and protect us,” I said.

I reached into my pocket and pulled out my phone, keeping the metal pole raised with my other hand.

“I have something you want,” I said.

Miller’s eyes drifted from the pole to the glowing screen of my phone.

“What is that?” he asked.

“It’s the digital ledger from Vance’s shell companies,” I said.

I had downloaded the files from the encrypted drive Giovanni had hidden in our old safe-deposit box.

“It shows every transaction made over the last eighteen months,” I said.

Miller didn’t move, but his posture stiffened.

“Including the payments made to Marla Hensley,” I added.

The room went completely silent except for the rain tapping against the glass.

“The hospital administrator?” Miller asked.

“She took sixty thousand dollars to flag my son’s admission,” I said. “She purposely delayed his emergency transfer to keep him vulnerable.”

I stared directly into Miller’s eyes.

“She let an infant suffocate for a paycheck from Marcus Vance,” I said.
