The Broken Legacy of a Protective Mother and a Shadowed Empire
“Calm down, Doctor,” I said, keeping my voice steady for my son’s sake. “Just focus on Luca.”
“I’m trying,” Sullivan whispered. “I’m not used to… this.”
“You did well getting him out of the hospital,” I said.
Giovanni’s men had smuggled Dr. Sullivan out through a basement laundry chute.
They had driven him in a secure, unmarked van to this safehouse.
It was the only way to get Luca the care he needed without Vance’s men finding them at the hospital.
“How did they know we were here?” Giovanni asked again, his eyes glued to the monitors.
He zoomed in on one of the cameras in the hallway.
The mercenaries weren’t searching the house randomly.
They were moving directly toward the study.
They knew exactly where the entrance to the passage was.
“This doesn’t make sense,” Giovanni muttered. “My men swept the route twice.”
“Could someone have talked?” I asked.
“Only my most trusted men knew this location,” Giovanni said. “And they are all accounted for.”
He turned around, his gaze falling on Dr. Sullivan’s medical bag.
