Dr. Sullivan rushed to the table and pressed his hand to Luca’s forehead.
“The fever is rising too fast,” the doctor said, his brow furrowed.
He opened his black medical bag and pulled out a thermometer.
“Where is the emergency kit Giovanni ordered?” I asked, looking around the small room.
“On the bottom shelf,” Giovanni said, already moving toward the security monitors.
He flicked a series of switches beneath the screens.
One by one, the static cleared, revealing feeds from the estate’s cameras.
The main hallway of the house was empty, but the glass of the French doors was shattered.

They carried assault rifles, their movements synchronized and professional.
“Vance’s men,” Giovanni muttered, his jaw tightening.
“How did they find this place?” I asked, keeping my eyes on Luca. “You said the estate was off the grid.”
“It is,” Giovanni said. “No one should have been able to trace us here.”
Dr. Sullivan placed the digital thermometer against Luca’s ear.
