I bent down, my fingers cold as I picked it up and held it in my palm.

Mr. Hayes cleared his throat, breaking the silence as he adjusted his glasses.

“With the forged amendments officially documented as fraudulent, the original trust stands,” Mr. Hayes said, his voice steady and professional.

He slid a thick sheaf of papers across the mahogany table toward us.

“Lily is now legally recognized as the sole heir to the Whitmore estate and the primary shareholder of the Whitmore Group,” he added.

I let out a breath I felt like I had been holding for months.

“It is over,” I whispered, looking at the legal seal on the documents.

“The legal battle is over, yes,” Mr. Hayes said, packing his fountain pen into his leather briefcase. “But we still have to deal with whatever Richard left behind in that safe.”

Nathan turned to me, his face pale and his eyes searching mine.

“He kept so much from me, Emily,” Nathan said, his hand reaching out to touch my arm. “I was blind to all of it.”
