“It doesn’t matter,” Richard whispered, leaning forward.

“The signatures on those documents belong to licensed medical professionals who owe me very large favors.”

“If I release these to the family court tomorrow morning, what do you think will happen?”

Richard looked at me, his eyes gleaming with triumph.

“They will declare you an unfit mother, Emily.”

“They will take Lily away from you and place her in state custody.”

“And as her legal father, Nathan will have to fight a massive public scandal just to get her back.”

“A scandal that will destroy his reputation and leave him completely dependent on my legal team.”

My hands began to shake as I looked at the falsified records.

The signatures looked incredibly real.

The dates lined up perfectly with the weeks after Lily’s birth.

“You wouldn’t do that to your own granddaughter,” Nathan said, his voice trembling.

“She is not my granddaughter,” Richard said coldly.

“She is a threat to my survival.”

He stood up, using his cane for support, and walked toward the glass window.
