The Bloodline Betrayal Hidden Beneath the Cold Foundations of My Empire
Adrian looked down at the concrete floor of the portico.
“She is below the cellar,” Adrian said.
“Caleb kept her in the old vaults.”
“He wanted the access codes to her family’s trust.”
“He told me she died, and he told her I was dead.”
I felt a chill that had nothing to do with the wind.
“Let’s go find her,” I said.
We walked inside the mansion.
The marble floors of the grand foyer were cold and white.
Our wet footsteps left dark patches on the polished stone.
Marcus led Elena toward the secure office on the main floor.
“Keep her locked in the study,” Adrian told Marcus.
“No phones, no outside lines.”
“We will deal with her when the sun comes up.”
Marcus nodded and dragged Elena away.
Her high heels clicked against the marble until the heavy wooden door closed.
Adrian and I walked down the long corridor toward the back of the estate.
The walls were lined with dark oak paneling that absorbed the dim light.
We reached the heavy iron door that led to the basement.
