“Sign,” Caleb said.

“And this all ends.”

“You get your family, and you get to run.”

“You know I can’t do that, Caleb,” I said.

“The Atlantic City operations aren’t just mine to give.”

“The commission will kill us both if I sign them over to you.”

Caleb smiled, but his eyes remained cold.

“The commission is already taken care of,” he said.

“They know you’re weak.”

“They know you’ve been hiding your dead wife in the basement.”

“They know about the child.”

My heart hammered against my ribs.

He knew everything.

Elena had fed him every secret.

“And Elena?” I asked.

“Where is she?”

“Elena is making sure we aren’t disturbed,” Caleb said.

“She has been very useful.”

He pushed the pen across the desk.

“Sign the papers, Adrian.”

I walked slowly toward the desk.

My eyes scanned the room.

The heavy velvet curtains were drawn shut.

There was no sign of Marcus.

But I knew he was close.

I reached for the pen.

My hand hovered over the paper.

The text message from the unknown sender flashed in my mind.

*Do not sign.*
