I stared at the screen, my grip tightening on the glass.

Celeste had married me knowing I was fertile, knowing my mother had forced Maren away, and she had taken hush money to keep the secret.

“Adrian?” Maren asked, noticing my expression.

“It’s happening,” I said quietly. “The medical board suspended Mercer’s license an hour ago. The police are at my mother’s estate.”

Maren let out a long breath, her shoulders dropping. “And Celeste?”

“She’s desperate,” I said. “She knows her reputation in Boston is finished if the board finds out she helped Eleanor.”

I stood up and walked to the window, looking out at the dark ocean waves crashing against the rocks.

The board meeting was starting in ten minutes.

I needed to make sure Celeste did not get a single penny of the Whitmore family trust.

I called Harrison back.

“Are you safe?” Harrison asked immediately when he answered.

“We’re in Ogunquit,” I said. “The kids are safe. Tell me about the board.”

“Celeste is already on the call,” Harrison said. “She’s trying to claim she was a victim of your mother’s manipulation. She wants a settlement.”
