Eleanor took a step forward, her eyes wide with a rare flash of panic.

“We can reach an agreement, Adrian,” she said quickly. “We can settle this quietly. Maren can be compensated.”

“Get out of my house,” Maren said again, louder this time.

“I am not done,” Eleanor said, her glare shifting to Maren.

“Yes, you are,” I said.

I reached into my inner coat pocket and pulled out a thick manila envelope.

It was heavy.

Inside were the copies of the medical records from Dr. Lionel Mercer’s private safe.

I had spent the last forty-eight hours securing them.

They showed the falsified test results, the wire transfers from Eleanor’s private accounts to Mercer’s offshore shell company, and the medical notes proving my fertility.

I did not hand the envelope to Eleanor.

I held it tightly against my side.

“What is that?” Eleanor asked, her eyes locking onto the paper.

“This is the end of Dr. Mercer’s career,” I said. “And yours.”

“Lionel would never betray me,” Eleanor said, though her voice trembled.

“He won’t have a choice,” I said. “He knows what the federal authorities do to doctors who falsify medical records for financial conspiracies.”
