He closed his eyes for a long moment, letting out a breath that sounded like a sigh of relief.
“Good,” he whispered. “That’s all that matters.”
Agent Miller walked over, kneeling on the other side of Adrian.
“Medics are on their way, DeLuca,” Miller said. “Just hold on.”
Adrian opened his eyes, looking directly at the agent.
The strength in his gaze hadn’t completely faded, even if his body was failing him.
“You have the recordings?” Adrian asked, his voice barely louder than a whisper.
“We have everything,” Miller confirmed, nodding. “The wiretap caught it all. Vance’s confession, the names of the captains, the transfer logs.”
“It’s not enough,” Adrian said, coughing.
A small drop of blood appeared at the corner of his mouth, and I wiped it away with the edge of my sleeve.
“What do you mean?” Miller asked.
“The enterprise,” Adrian said, his fingers tightening on my hand. “If any of it survives, they’ll come for her. They’ll come for my child.”
He looked at Miller, his expression deadly serious.
