Adrian closed his eyes for a second, his jaw muscles clenching.
“Miller,” Adrian said, turning his head toward the agent standing by the window. “Tell me you have Leo in custody.”
Miller looked out at the snow piling up on the window sill.
“Vance is gone, Adrian,” Miller said.
He turned around and leaned his lower back against the radiator.
“He cleared out his desk at the trucking terminal three hours ago.”
“He wouldn’t run,” Adrian said, his voice cold. “Not unless he thought he already won.”
“He thinks he has,” Miller replied.
Miller reached into his suit jacket and pulled out a manila envelope.
He tossed it onto the bedside table next to my arm.
“Your underboss didn’t just want your territory, Adrian,” Miller said.
“What did he do?” I asked, my voice barely a whisper.
Miller looked at me, his eyes showing a rare flash of pity.
“He leaked the medical records from your OB-GYN clinic,” Miller said.
I felt the blood drain from my face.
“He sent them to the Moretti family,” Miller continued.
Adrian took a step toward the bed, but the chain on his handcuffs rattled loudly.
