He looked at me then.
His dark eyes were bloodshot, and snow was melting in his hair, running down his cheeks like sweat.
“I want a full, written agreement,” Adrian continued. “Absolute immunity. A new identity. Witness protection outside of Illinois.”
“And what do I get in return?” Miller asked.
“I will sign a confession,” Adrian said. “I will list every transaction, every port authority official we bribed, and every shipment that came through the Great Lakes.”
“We need more than just names, DeLuca. We need the structure.”
“I’ll give you Leo Vance,” Adrian said.
My heart skipped a beat at the mention of Leo’s name.
Leo had been Adrian’s shadow for ten years, the man who knew where every body was buried.
“Leo is moving fast,” Adrian told Miller. “He’s already trying to consolidate the docks. If you don’t take him down now, he’ll rebuild the network before the snow melts.”
“How do we know you’re not just clearing out your rivals?” Miller asked.
“Because I’m giving you myself, too,” Adrian said. “I’m not asking for a plea deal for me. I’ll take the federal time. Just secure Claire.”
