The Betrayal of the Syndicate and the Maid Who Saved Me
Tony looked at the broken balcony doors, then at the elevator.
The elevator behind me chimed.
The floor indicator light lit up.
The doors began to slide open.
The doors parted with a heavy metallic scrape.
Three of my own personal guards stepped out, their heavy overcoats soaked from the rain outside.
At the front was Silvio, his face set like gray stone, a heavy revolver already in his right hand.
Tony took a step toward them, his eyes bright with sudden hope.
“Silvio,” Tony barked, pointing a shaking finger at Elena. “Take her down. She is a federal agent.”
Silvio did not look at Elena.
He looked at me, then he looked at Tony.
“The docks are secure, Boss,” Silvio said to me, his voice low and steady.
“What are you doing?” Tony screamed, his voice cracking under the strain. “I run this family now!”
“You ran it into the ground, Tony,” Silvio said.
Silvio turned his weapon and pointed it directly at Tony’s chest.
The two guards behind him followed suit, their barrels reflecting the red and blue flashing lights from the window.
