The Betrayal of the Syndicate and the Maid Who Saved Me
I picked up the compact submachine gun and checked the magazine.
The cold metal felt heavy in my hands.
“What is the play once you are inside?” Elena asked.
“I go straight to the penthouse,” I said. “Tony needs to see me.”
“He will kill you the moment you step out of the elevator,” Romano said.
“Not if the others are watching,” I said. “I have the recording of Tony’s call with the rival syndicate. The one where he agreed to sell out our shipping routes.”
I pulled a small black digital recorder from my pocket.
“If the captains hear this, they will not support him,” I said. “They might be greedy, but they do not tolerate traitors.”
“How do you plan to play it?” Elena asked.
“The boardroom has a central audio system for video conferences,” I said. “If I can patch this into the main feed, the entire room will hear it.”
“The server room is on the thirty-ninth floor,” Elena said. “Just below the penthouse.”
“I will handle the server room,” Romano said. “I know the layout of the wiring.”
