The Betrayal of the Syndicate and the Maid Who Saved Me
Vincenzo stared at me for a long moment, studying my face.
“You’re a cop, Elena,” he said softly. “Don’t think I don’t know.”
My heart missed a beat, but I kept my face still.
Victor shifted his weight behind me, his boots scraping on the grit.
“It doesn’t matter what I am,” I said. “Tony is going to burn this city down, and your legacy with it.”
“She’s right, Uncle,” Marcus said, looking down at the old man.
“Tony is selling off everything,” Marcus continued. “He’s wiping the slate clean.”
Vincenzo closed his eyes and nodded slowly.
“The ledger is at the shipping terminal,” Vincenzo said. “In the primary office.”
“Miller is running security there,” I said. “He’s Tony’s man now.”
“Miller can be bypassed,” Vincenzo said. “But you’ll need the bypass codes for the vault.”
He reached into his breast pocket and pulled out a small black USB drive.
“This has the decrypter,” he said, placing it on the desk.
“Why give it to me?” I asked, looking at the plastic drive.
“Because you want Tony, and I want my name cleared of his filth,” Vincenzo said.
