“The document suggested that the entire design could fail within three winters.”

“How do you respond to that?”

I looked past the reporter directly at Adrian.

He was watching me, a faint, smug smile finally appearing on his face.

Serena whispered something in his ear, her eyes glittering.

They thought they had trapped me in front of the city officials.

I smiled back at them.

“I am glad you asked that question,” I said into the microphone.

I walked over to the second presentation board and flipped the cover sheet off.

“The document you were sent is a draft from August of last year,” I said.

“It was a preliminary calculation created while I was still employed at Bennett Urban Systems in Boston.”

A low murmur went through the crowd of reporters.

“That draft was indeed flawed,” I continued.

“It was a baseline stress test designed to identify potential failure points.”

“In fact, it is the exact design that Bennett Urban Systems is currently using for their harbor project in Boston.”

Adrian’s smile vanished instantly.

His face went pale in the cold morning light.
