“That was my financial analyst in Boston,” Julian said.

“What did he say?” I asked.

“The news of the Chicago suspension hasn’t even hit the press yet,” Julian said. “But someone inside Bennett Urban Systems is already moving.”

I frowned, a cold feeling settling in my stomach.

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“Marcus says there is unusual activity on their corporate treasury accounts,” Julian said.

I looked at him, waiting for the rest.

“Several large wire transfers have been initiated in the last hour,” Julian said, his voice low. “They are being sent to a private offshore account in the Cayman Islands.”

“Adrian wouldn’t do that,” I said, thinking of his obsession with his company’s survival. “He would never drain his own corporate accounts. He wants to save the company, not destroy it.”

“No,” Julian agreed. “He wouldn’t.”

My mind immediately went to the other person who had access to those accounts.

“Serena,” I said.

“She has the executive signing authority,” Julian said. “And according to Marcus, a booking was just made in her name for a first-class flight to London leaving early tomorrow morning.”
