The door to the office opened again, and Mara walked in carrying a tray with two glasses of amber liquid.
Her face was calm, though her eyes were sharp as she looked at the two of us.
“The security team has secured the perimeter,” Mara said. “Elias has been detained in the guard house.”
“Did he confess?” Roman asked.
“He admitted to taking payments from the Vance family,” Mara replied. “He gave them the clinic’s location.”
“Take care of him,” Roman said, his voice cold. “But do not harm him. Hand him over to the authorities with the rest of the evidence.”
Mara nodded once, her expression unchanging.
“Yes, Mr. Blackwell,” she said, placing the glasses on the edge of the desk.
She looked at me, a soft, approving nod passing between us, before she turned and left the room.
The office was quiet now, save for the hum of the computer.
Roman picked up one of the glasses and handed it to me.
“To the end of the debts,” he said.
I took the glass, the cool crystal reassuring in my hand.
