“Absolutely not,” he said. “It is suicide.”
“Listen to me,” I whispered. “The bank is in the middle of the Loop. It is broad daylight.”
“There are cameras, security guards, and hundreds of witnesses.”
“They will follow me there instead of attacking this estate.”
“Your men can watch the entrance. We can catch whoever is pulling the strings.”
Roman gripped my shoulder, his fingers digging into my coat.
“It is too dangerous, Lena. Your father’s debts have made people desperate.”
“My father is the one who put us in this position,” I said. “Let me end it.”
He searched my face, looking for weakness.
I did not blink.
I had to show him I was strong enough to face this.
Finally, he let out a slow, painful breath and lowered his gun.
“I will send a team with you,” Roman said. “Elias will drive.”
“And two of my best men will be in the lobby.”
“Thank you,” I said.
“Do not thank me yet,” he said. “If anything looks wrong, you walk out.”
We went back upstairs to the main hall.
