Jake stood up beside Reyes, leaning over the table to look at the screen.
The video showed Walter, his face pale but his eyes burning with a desperate, venomous anger.
“Jake,” Walter’s voice came through the speaker, cold and mocking. “You think you’ve won. You think you can take my life away from me.”
The video shook as Walter leaned closer to the camera.
“You don’t know what I put in motion before they locked me up,” Walter sneered. “If I go down, I’m taking everything you love with me.”
The screen suddenly went black as the video ended.
The room went completely silent.
My phone in my purse began to buzz, the screen lighting up with an unknown number.
I stared at it, frozen with fear, as it vibrated against the leather.
I stared at the screen as it continued to vibrate against the dark wood of the conference table.
My fingers trembled as I reached into my purse and pulled the phone out.
“Answer it, Hannah,” Jake said, his hand resting firmly on my shoulder.
