Reclaiming My Home After My Family Declared Me Dead Overseas
Deputy Miller took a step closer to Walter, his hand resting near his duty belt.
“Is this true, sir?” the deputy asked.
“This is a family matter, Deputy,” Patricia said, her voice trembling but sharp.
“Our son was missing in a hostile zone. We did what we had to do to protect our family’s assets.”
“You did it to fund Logan’s bad real estate investments,” Jake said.
I felt a cold draft from the open front door sweeping across my bare ankles.
Jake turned his head slightly, looking at me, then back at the deputy.
“They thought they could isolate Hannah,” Jake said.
“They thought if they locked her out and took her phone, she couldn’t tell anyone what she found.”
“She doesn’t know anything,” Walter muttered, glaring at me with pure hatred.
“She knows everything,” Jake said.
“Those meetings Hannah was having for the past month? The ones you told the neighbors were proof she was losing her mind?”
I lifted my chin, staring directly into Patricia’s cold blue eyes.
“She wasn’t hiding from me,” Jake said.
“She was meeting with Daniel Reyes.”
