Reclaiming My Home After My Family Declared Me Dead Overseas
“I’ll have a recorder on me,” Jake said. “Can you get Reyes to set up surveillance near the perimeter?”
“Reyes is in the city, but he has state police contacts who can be near the site,” Hayes said. “But you have to be careful. If Walter finds out, he won’t let Logan go alone.”
“I know,” Jake said. “I’ll see you at the secondary location in an hour to get the wire equipment.”
He hung up the phone and turned to me.
“I have to go,” he said.
“It’s freezing outside, Jake,” I said, walking over to him and grabbing his jacket sleeves. “What if they’re waiting for you with more than just paperwork?”
Jake reached out and touched my cheek, his fingers warm against my cold skin.
“I’ve been in worse places than a suburban construction site, Hannah,” he said softly.
He walked over to the crib and looked down at Owen, who was sleeping with his thumb tucked near his cheek.
“Keep the doors locked,” Jake said. “Don’t answer for anyone except Hayes or Reyes.”
