He looked at the pen Naomi held out to him.
His hand shook as he reached for it, but he didn’t take it yet.
He turned to look at the documents again, his eyes scanning the financial data printed on the secondary sheets.
“You don’t understand,” Grant said, his voice suddenly very quiet. “My name is on these accounts, yes. But I didn’t set them up.”
I watched him closely, looking for the lie.
“What are you saying, Grant?” I asked.
“My father,” he said, looking at the door as if someone were listening. “Conrad did this. He used my signature. He told me it was for the expansion in Singapore, but he was moving the money from the charity foundation.”
Sienna looked up, her mouth slightly open.
“He made me the fall guy,” Grant whispered, a look of realization washing over his face. “If the feds look at this, they won’t go after him first. They’ll come for me. He planned it that way.”
“He’s your father,” I said.
“He’s a businessman,” Grant said, bitter laughter bubbling up in his throat. “He doesn’t have partners. He only has assets and liabilities.”
