How My Husband Planned My Ruin and Built His Own Downfall
I walked past the receptionist’s desk.
She was away from her post, likely grabbing lunch.
I walked down the long, carpeted hallway toward the boardroom.
As I passed Jared’s office, I noticed the door was slightly ajar.
I stopped, my breath catching in my throat.
I heard voices coming from inside.
It was Jared.
He was speaking to someone on the phone.
“I don’t care what the lawyers say,” Jared’s voice was sharp and impatient.
“Just make sure Shelby’s name is off the primary trust accounts by Friday,” he said.
“She won’t suspect a thing until she tries to use her card.”
I stood frozen in the hallway, clutching my briefcase to my chest.
“Once the baby is born, the board will finalize my permanent status as chairman,” Jared continued.
“Uncle Arthur is already preparing the transfer of the legacy shares.”
“He thinks this baby is the future of the Harlan dynasty.”
Jared laughed, a cold, dry sound that chilled me to the bone.
“Let him think whatever he wants,” Jared said. “Just get the paperwork ready.”
He hung up the phone.
