“What is going on here, Jared?” I asked, keeping my voice as flat as possible.

Courtney looked up at me, her eyes wide, glistening with unshed tears.

“I’m so sorry to intrude on you like this, Shelby,” Courtney said, her voice trembling. “I didn’t know where else to go.”

Jared stepped forward, placing a firm hand on Courtney’s shoulder.

“Courtney has been targeted by some very serious online threats,” Jared said, his tone grave. “It’s a coordinated harassment campaign linked to her lifestyle channel.”

“And what does that have to do with our home?” I asked.

“Harlan Media’s security team advised that she stay in a secure, monitored location until we resolve the threat,” Jared said.

“We are launching a public safety campaign around her situation tomorrow morning,” he continued.

“It will look excellent for our corporate brand, and it keeps her safe.”

He looked at me, his eyes cold and commanding beneath his friendly expression.

“I’ve already had the staff prepare the entire guest wing for her,” Jared said.

“She will be staying with us here for the next few weeks.”
