“Enjoying the sunshine while it lasts! So glad we have such a beautiful estate to come back to next week.”

A second text came in right behind it, this time from Diane.

“Make sure the guest suite is dusted, Tessa. We’ll need the master keys when we return.”

They had no idea.

They thought they were coming back to my mansion, to live off my hard work.

I stared at the screen, my heart beating fast.

Then, another notification banner popped up at the top of my screen.

It was an alert from my home security app for the Redwood Crest estate.

Someone was currently walking through the front door of my house.

I tapped the notification to open the live camera feed.

The camera angle showed the high ceilings of the grand foyer at Redwood Crest.

Brent walked into the frame, whistling.

He wore his favorite blue golf polo and cream-colored shorts.

He did not look like a man who had locked his wife and newborn baby out of their home in the middle of a cold Boulder evening.

He looked relaxed, almost celebratory.
