“You let your mother and sister treat my home like their personal resort.”

“I am done protecting you, Brent.”

He took a deep breath, trying to regain his composure, but his hands were trembling in his pockets.

“This is ridiculous,” he muttered, shaking his head.

“I put my career on hold for you.”

“I managed the contractors at Redwood Crest.”

“I deserve compensation for my labor.”

Jennifer turned another page in the folder, her pen poised over a pad of paper.

“We have records of the invoices you submitted for those renovations, Mr. Vance,” she said.

“You paid your own shell company over eighty thousand dollars from Tessa’s account for ‘project management’.”

“That is more than double the market rate for such services.”

“You have already been compensated, and then some.”

Brent glared at Jennifer, his teeth grinding together so hard I could hear it.

“You think you have this all figured out, don’t you?” he hissed.

“You think you can just write me out of your life like a bad dream.”

“I will fight this,” he said, turning back to me.
