Molly stepped out into the pouring rain, holding a massive black umbrella.

“Elliot, I have to call you right back,” I whispered into the phone and hung up.

“Tessa!” Molly screamed over the wind, rushing toward me. “Oh my god, you’re freezing.”

She threw her arms around us, shielding Ivy and me with the umbrella.

I let her guide me toward her SUV, my legs trembling so hard I could barely walk.

She opened the back door and helped me strap Ivy’s car seat into the base she had installed earlier that week.

Once Ivy was secure, I climbed into the front passenger seat, shivering violently.

The heater was already blasting warm air.

Molly got in, slammed her door, and immediately locked us in.

She looked at my wet hair, my pale face, and then down at my bare wrists.

“What did Brent do?” she asked, her voice tight with anger as she pulled out of the driveway.

“He locked us out,” I said, my teeth chattering. “He took my keys. He took my phone charger. He wants the house, Molly.”
