“You took my daughter from me and locked me out of my own home last week,” I said, my voice tightening as the memory flashed through my mind. “You left me in the cold with nothing but the clothes on my back.”

“That was a misunderstanding!” he lied quickly. “The door caught! I didn’t mean to lock you out!”

“Save it for the judge, Brent.”

“I will sue you for every single penny you have!” he hissed, his tone turning venomous. “I am going to take half of this mansion! I will take half of your business! You think you are so smart, but I will ruin you in court!”

“You should read the rest of the documents in that envelope,” I said.

“I don’t need to read anything!” he screamed. “I know my rights! I am coming to find you right now. I know you’re at Molly’s.”

The line went dead.

I lowered the phone and looked at Molly.

Her face was pale, but her jaw was set.

“He is coming here,” she said.

“Let him,” Jennifer said, walking into the kitchen from the dining room.
