He tapped the screen of the tablet to lock it.

“We will keep this tablet as evidence,” he said. “This is attempted asset dissipation during a pending legal action.”

“Will it help with the divorce?” I asked.

“It guarantees it,” Vance said. “We file the petition first thing Monday morning.”

We walked back into the living room.

Linda was sitting on the edge of the cream-colored sofa.

Her makeup was smeared across her cheeks.

She looked small and fragile, but her eyes were still sharp with anger.

“What did you do?” she hissed as we entered. “Where are they taking my son?”

“He is going to the precinct, Linda,” I said. “And then he is going to jail.”

“This is your fault,” she said, pointing a shaking finger at me. “You set him up.”

“He stole from my mother’s estate,” I said. “He and Ryan forged signatures to cover Ryan’s debts.”

“Family helps family!” she screamed. “You have millions! What was he supposed to do?”

“Not commit felony fraud,” I said.

“You are a selfish, cold woman,” she said. “Your mother would be ashamed of you.”
