Marcus’s secretary stood in the doorway, her face pale and her hands trembling.

“Marcus, there is someone here to see you,” she said.

“I told you I was in a closed meeting,” Marcus said, his voice firm.

“I know,” she whispered. “But she wouldn’t wait.”

A figure stepped out from behind the secretary, pushing past her into the warm room.

It was Melanie.

She was wearing a dark trench coat, her blonde hair perfectly styled despite the rain outside.

She looked at me, then at Wyatt, a cold smile touching her lips.

“Hello, Sadie,” Melanie said.

“I see you brought the whole gang.”

Wyatt stood up immediately, stepping between Melanie and me.

“Get out of here, Melanie,” Wyatt said.

“I have business with Marcus,” Melanie said, ignoring him completely.

She walked into the room, her high heels clicking loudly on the hardwood floor.

She threw a thick manila folder onto the desk.

“I think you’ll want to see this before you file that audit,” she said.

Marcus didn’t touch the folder.

“What is this, Melanie?” Marcus asked.
