How My Family Tried to Destroy Me and Ended Up Ruining Themselves
“It’s Melanie,” Wyatt said.
He turned the screen toward me.
It was a text message from an unknown number, but the tone was unmistakably hers.
“Tell Sadie to drop the audit, or I will destroy your company,” the message read.
“How does she think she can destroy your company?” I asked.
Wyatt rubbed his face with his hand, looking suddenly exhausted.
“She has been calling my office all afternoon,” he said.
“She wanted to meet with me privately yesterday.”
“You didn’t tell me,” I said.
“I didn’t want to worry you while you were recovering,” Wyatt said.
“She told me she has ‘proof’ of safety violations on our downtown site.”
“She claims she can shut us down permanently.”
“That’s a lie,” I said. “Your safety record is spotless.”
“It doesn’t matter if it’s a lie,” Wyatt said. “If she files a formal complaint with the state board, they will halt construction during the investigation.”
“That would cost my company thousands of dollars a day.”
Marcus leaned over the desk, his eyes sharp.
“Did she put that in writing?” he asked.
