Jason smiled at me from behind his grandmother’s shoulder.
It was a cold, victorious smile.
“I will handle everything, Grandmother,” Jason said.
“You don’t need to worry anymore.”
“The papers are in the study,” Vivian said to me.
“I want you to review them tonight.”
“As Ethan’s wife, you will need to sign the secondary witness forms.”
“Make sure they are on my desk by eight o’clock tomorrow.”
She turned and walked toward the door, her cane tapping the floorboards.
“Get some sleep,” she added. “Tomorrow will be a long day.”
Jason stayed behind for a second.
He leaned closer to me, his breath smelling of scotch.
“Make sure you sign,” he whispered.
