How a Secret Trust and Kitchen Camera Exposed My Abusive Husband
I tapped the screen to open the message.
It was an image file.
It showed a photograph of a legal document, dated only three days ago.
The document was an application for a foreign banking license in the Cayman Islands.
At the bottom of the page, beneath the typed name of Ethan Brooks, was a second signature.
It was a signature I recognized instantly.
My heart slowed as I stared at the name written in dark blue ink.
The signature belonged to Arthur Pendelton, the senior partner at the law firm that had managed my family’s trust for three generations.
My thumb hovered over the cold glass of the screen.
I forwarded the image to Detective Sullivan.
My phone rang less than a minute later.
“Natalie,” Sullivan said, his voice loud over the speaker.
“I just sent you the missing piece,” I said.
“We just intercepted a wire transfer from the trust account to a bank in Nassau,” Sullivan said.
“Pendelton was the only one who had the security keys to authorize that,” I said.
“I am standing outside his office building right now,” Sullivan said.
