He looked back at me, his eyes wide with sudden concern.
“Are you sure?” Sullivan asked the caller.
He didn’t wait for an answer.
He hung up the phone and stepped back into the room, closing the door behind him.
“What is it?” I asked, my heart skipping a beat.
“Margaret’s attorneys just filed an emergency motion,” Sullivan said.
“They are claiming the kitchen camera footage was obtained illegally,” Sullivan said.
“They want it excluded from the evidence pool before the grand jury even convenes.”
Rachel stepped forward, her lab coat rustling.
“How can they claim that?” she asked. “It’s Natalie’s house.”
“They are arguing the estate belongs to a family trust controlled by Margaret,” Sullivan explained.
He looked down at his notepad, then back up at me.
“But they don’t know we already have the financial logs,” I said.
My voice sounded thin, but steady.
“The trust documents they are relying on are the forged ones,” I added.
Sullivan nodded slowly.
“We need to prove the forgery to keep the video in,” he said.
“Then we will,” I said.
