“That was incredible,” she said.

“He sounded like he was going to throw up at the end.”

“He should,” I said.

“He knows he’s representing a monster, and now he knows she’s a documented one.”

My phone buzzed again almost immediately.

This time, the screen displayed Detective Sullivan’s name.

I slid my finger across the glass.

“Sullivan,” I said.

“Natalie,” Sullivan’s voice came through, accompanied by the background hum of a busy precinct.

“I just opened your email.”

“I’ve only listened to two of the files, and my jaw is on the floor.”

“They are damning,” I said.

“Damning is an understatement,” Sullivan said.

“This establishes a clear history of premeditated abuse.”

“The DA is already drafting the formal indictment.”

“Margaret isn’t getting bail after they hear these.”

I closed my eyes, feeling a small fraction of the weight lift from my chest.

“Thank you, Detective,” I said.

“We aren’t done yet, Natalie,” Sullivan said, his tone turning serious.

“I’ve been watching your husband.”

“Ethan?” I asked, my heart rate spiking.

“We had a tail on him today,” Sullivan said.

“He didn’t go to his usual spots.”
