I walked down the marble steps of the courthouse, the midday sun scorching the concrete.
Carlos was waiting at the curb with the door open.
I got into the car, the cool air immediately wrapping around me.
“The park on Oak Lawn, Carlos,” I said.
“Yes, ma’am,” he replied, steering the vehicle into the heavy Dallas traffic.
