The bailiff called the court to order, and Judge Avery took her seat on the bench.

“We are here today regarding the emergency custody petition filed by Jocelyn Ralston,” the judge said.

“Your Honor,” Graham’s attorney stood up. “This is a baseless attempt to disrupt a stable family environment.”

“My client is a respected businessman, and Mrs. Gloria Ralston is a pillar of the Highland Park community.”

“There is no reason to alter the current custody arrangement of the children.”

Marcus stood up slowly.

“Your Honor, if I may,” Marcus said.

“We have recently acquired financial documents that directly impact the fitness of the father.”

“And more importantly, the grandmother, who resides in the home.”

Marcus walked to the clerk and handed over three copies of the bank ledgers.

“These documents show a systematic history of financial fraud and embezzlement,” Marcus said.

“Specifically, the theft of eight million dollars from the estate of the petitioner’s late father.”

Gloria’s face turned a pale, chalky white.

She gripped the edge of the mahogany table so hard her knuckles turned yellow.
