“Keep the proprietary accounts locked,” I said. “They must not touch the trust funds for Hazel and Ruby.”

“I will file the temporary restraining orders regarding the accounts first thing in the morning,” Harrison said.

“Good,” I said. “And Harrison?”

“Yes, Jocelyn?”

“Make sure the commercial leases are secure.”

“The Oak Lawn property?” he asked.

“Specifically that one,” I said. “Do not let them know who owns the building yet.”

“Understood,” Harrison said. “Go home. Get the girls settled.”

I ended the call and slipped the phone back into my pocket.

I pressed the key fob, and the lights of my mid-sized SUV flashed in the driveway.

I opened the back door and helped Ruby into her booster seat.

Hazel climbed in beside her and buckled her own seatbelt without a word.

Her eyes were still red from her grandmother’s sharp words.

I closed their door and climbed into the driver’s seat.

The leather steering wheel was cool beneath my palms.

I started the engine, shifted into drive, and steered us away from the grand, columned mansion.
