“Evelyn, what is she talking about?” Vanessa asked. “Grant told me he was at the office preparing his testimony.”

Evelyn did not look at her future daughter-in-law; she kept her eyes fixed straight ahead.

Nathan stood up, drawing the attention of the entire room.

“Your Honor, if I may,” Nathan said, his voice calm and perfectly controlled.

Judge Miller looked at him, then at the tablet in his hand. “Mr. Cole, does this involve your security team?”

“It does,” Nathan said, walking toward the bench with his tablet. “My private security detail has been monitoring the airport terminal.”

He placed the screen on the wooden ledge of the judge’s bench.

“We have verified that Clerk Higgins did not sign that order,” Nathan said. “The digital signature was copied from an old filing on a corporate easement case from three years ago.”

He swiped his finger across the screen, showing a side-by-side comparison.

“It is a crude forgery, Your Honor,” Nathan added.

I watched the judge’s face as she studied the screen.

Her jaw tightened, and a look of cold anger washed over her features.
