He looked across the aisle.
Grant was smiling, leaning back in his chair with his hands behind his head.
He had planned this.

“We have to counter this,” Nathan said, his voice dropping to a harsh whisper.
“If the judge thinks we lied to the court about our relationship, we lose everything.”
“We lose Rosie,” I said, the tears finally burning my eyes.
Nathan put his hand over mine again.
“No,” he said, his eyes locking onto mine with a fierce intensity.
“We don’t lose.”
“We tell the truth about why we did it.”
Just then, my phone, sitting in my purse on the floor, began to vibrate.
The screen lit up inside the dark bag.
